SACE Stage 1 & Stage 2 · Methods · Specialist

An A+ isn't found in the textbook. It's built in the 4,000th question.

The Mastery Series gives SACE Mathematics, Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics students the complex, non-routine questions the Stage 2 exam actually asks — written by a QUT mathematician with 15+ years coaching students to top-band results.

Why strong students still miss an A+

Your textbook trains recognition. SACE tests reasoning.

Most students can answer a question they've seen before — they recognise the topic, apply a memorised method, and move on. Then the exam asks something unfamiliar: a question that fuses two or three topics, hides the method, and demands interpretation. That's where marks are won and lost.

Standard textbook practice

  • Repetitive, single-skill drills
  • The method is obvious from the chapter heading
  • Easier than the real Stage 2 paper
  • Builds false confidence

The Mastery Series

  • Multi-step, multi-topic problems
  • You must choose the strategy yourself
  • Written at and above SACE exam difficulty
  • Builds genuine exam-day composure

Questions parents ask us

Frequently asked questions

Is this aligned to the official SACE syllabus?

Yes. Every workbook is written specifically for the South Australian Certificate of Education — Stage 1 Mathematics, Stage 2 Mathematical Methods, and Stage 2 Specialist Mathematics. These are not adapted from another state's curriculum. See the official syllabus at sace.sa.edu.au.

Is this a printed book?

No. Each workbook is a digital PDF, delivered as an instant download after purchase, with lifetime access. No physical copy is shipped.

My child gets 80–90% at school. Do they still need this?

Those are exactly the students these workbooks are written for. School marks reflect school-level questions; the SACE external exam — and internal assessments at competitive schools — ask harder, less familiar questions. Strong students plateau when their practice stops challenging them.

Are worked solutions included?

Final answers are included for every question so students can self-check. This is deliberate — students who check an answer, find they're wrong, and hunt down their own error develop far stronger reasoning than students who read a worked solution and nod along.

When should we start — Stage 1 or wait for Stage 2?

Start in Stage 1. The Stage 2 course is built entirely on Stage 1 foundations — algebraic fluency, functions and early calculus. Students who develop non-routine problem-solving in Stage 1 walk into Stage 2 with a significant head start.

How do I know these workbooks are legitimate?

A Star Maths has 162 five-star Google reviews, 276 five-star TutorFinder reviews and a 2026 Global Recognition Award, built over 15+ years of tutoring. You can read every review publicly and contact us directly before buying.
